The Plymouth-based printer purchased a six-station Stitchmaster ST350 saddlestitcher and a Polar 92X guillotine from Heidelberg.
The company, which handles point-of-sale materials, commercial print and direct mail for clients that include charities and public services, upgraded to the ST350 from the ST100 model.
Pepper Communications operations director Jude Whitford said: "The ST100 has been a solid and robust machine, but it was limited in the number of formats it could handle and that is why we have upgraded and why we have returned to Heidelberg for more of the same technology."
He added: "The drive is to bring our finishing work in-house and the new equipment opens up new avenues for us.
"We already have a weekly contract for the new stitch line, something that the entry-level ST100, with its speeds, could not have managed," he told printweek.com.
The firm, which supplies inserts and a wide range of promotional and point-of-sale materials for magazine publishers, will receive the machines in September.
