The half-size four-colour Spica, which launched in 2002, was pitched mostly at small to medium-size printers and now has more than 350 installations worldwide.
Komori said the Spica's compact size and high levels of automation would make the transition to four- and five-colour printing easier for smaller print shops.
The company claimed the Spica can meet tight turnaround times for short to medium runs due to its standard automation, which includes tool-free plate clamping (SAPC), automatic ink roller and blanket wash, and fully automatic changeover between straight printing and perfecting.
Abdulluh Usuf, managing director of Dewsbury-based Impress Printers, which installed its first Spica last year, said: "The Spica offered the best value for money on the market, but it's the Komori people that really made the difference. From beginning to end, the service was first class."
