Howarth closed by administrators

Howarth Packaging in Lancashire has closed with the loss of 35 jobs after administrators were unable to find a buyer for the firm.

The Waterfoot-based firm had been in business since 1971 and specialised in folding cartons and medical packaging.

Joint administrator Ben Barrett, from Tenon Recovery in Bolton, said there were no companies interested in buying Howarth at an acceptable price so he had to close the firm.

Howarth had gone into a company voluntary arrangement in 2006 and Barrett said this had affected the confidence of some major customers, causing them to withdraw business.
