Xerox has won the five-year print management contract for the North West Collaborative Procurement Hub (NWCPH).
Under the deal, which is expected to accrue savings of around £5.5m, Xerox will manage the entire document-related output of each Trust represented in the Hub.
As well as cost savings, it is expected to offer environmental benefits through the reduction of waste and unnecessary print expenses, and an increase in productivity levels.
The service includes the management and provision of direct and indirect print requirements with a planned first phase starting towards the end of 2007.
Direct print services that Xerox will cover are described as office functions, such as printing, copying, faxing, scanning, storage and retrieval of administrative documents and research papers.
The indirect print responsibilities consist of sourcing litho printing and providing digital print services, with Xerox working in partnership with the Trusts' litho print suppliers, as well as directly managing digital print-on-demand black-and-white and colour production.
Management and administration will be co-ordinated from a Xerox bespoke managed services centre.
Xerox Global Services UK director and general manager John Hopwood said: "The NHS is committed to empowering local Trusts, creating greater efficiencies at a local level. By collaborating with the NWCPH and each Trust, we can understand their specific document requirements.
"We can help them identify where productivity improvements and cost/ waste reductions can be made and free staff from often very time-consuming back office activities."
