Coca-Cola Builds World’s Largest Bottle Recycling Plant

Coca-Cola is building the world's largest plastic bottle-to-bottle recycling plant at a cost of $60m.

The company will work with United Resource Recovery Corporation (URRC) to build the plant in South Carolina.

The plant, which is slated to open in 2008 and be fully operational by 2009, is expected to produce 100 million pounds of food-grade recycled PET each year, the equivalent of producing nearly 2 billion 20oz Coca-Cola bottles.

Coca-Cola says the plant is part of its effort to recycle or reuse 100% of its PET bottles in the US.

The company also has recycling facilities in Switzerland, Mexico, Austria and the Philippines.
