Watkiss has added a barcode reader as standard to its Document Finishing System (DFS) to enhance security.
The finishing kit manufacturer previously offered the barcode module as an optional extra, citing the mainstream move into variable-data and personalised printing as the reason for the adjustment.
Watkiss claimed the barcode reader can provide multi-level security verification at sheet, set and job level, with users able to configure the system to interpret the barcode characters as required.
The reader can also control the insertion of covers and multiple additional sheets for customised sets.
Barcode position on the reader is flexible with a minimum character height of 3.5mm and a 2mm minimum distance from the feed edge. The barcode can easily fit into the trim margin.
The DFS takes pre-collated sheets directly from the printer and automatically processes them into high-quality booklets. If required, it can insert additional sheets, such as pre-printed covers.
Watkiss sales director Paul Attew said: "We've offered it as an optional module for some time, but we recognise that absolute verification at sheet, set and document level is important, especially as more and more of our customers are producing customised or variable-data print.
"By printing a barcode on each sheet, our system can guarantee that every set is correct".
