Print and Media Certification (PMC) has gained accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service to award ISO certifications in environmental management.
The Staffordshire-based company has now added environmental standard ISO 14001 to its range of accredited certifications to customers in the paper, print and publishing sectors.
PMC had to demonstrate its impartiality, independence and competence in assessment and certification to highly experienced assessors.
PMC can certify big companies directly in Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditations and runs a group scheme to allow small printers with fewer than 16 employees the chance to gain FSC through lower cost assessment and certification, and by using its expert assessors.
PMC director Jon Stack said there was growing demand for ISO 14001 because print buyers and managers were demanding better environmental standards.
"PMC prides itself on being the only certification body specific to the print, paper and publishing industries in the UK, and, as far as we know, in the world," he said.
"The recognition of accreditation for 14001, in addition to our existing 9001 accreditation, is a demonstration of the independent, competent and relevant assessment work we do for our clients in the field of certification of management systems."
Stack added that certification was not expensive and the company offered a monthly payment scheme.
As well as FSC, 9001 and 14001, PMC can also offer certification to PEFC Chain of Custody, information security management standard ISO 27001, ISO 12647-2 (Colour Management) and a range of other certifications relevant to the paper, print and publishing industries.
