The North Cornwall District Council has signed an agreement for more than three dozen Xerox printers through reseller SCC Exchange.
The 39 Extensible Interface Platform (EIP)-enabled multi-function printers: the WorkCentre 7328 and WorkCentre 245; will allow the council to develop bespoke, web-based services to benefit its employees, the residential community and the one million tourists who annually visit the region.
The council said the project would improve efficiency for its staff and allow the creation of new kiosk-style services for the public at existing council buildings, such as leisure centres and visitor centres. For example, tourists will be able to request printed information, such as a local map, on demand from the lobby of any visitor centre.
Russell Cosway, ICT business manager for North Cornwall District Council, said the interface was perfect for getting the most out of community service facilities.
"The beauty of EIP is that it doesn't require us to learn a new programming language and, once we develop and load an application on the server, it can run on any device in our network," he said.
"North Cornwall District Council has a number of small offices, including leisure and visitor centres, and we can develop bespoke applications that significantly enhance the services we provide to the community."
The Xerox WorkCentre 7328 starts at £6,700 while the minimum price for the WC245 is listed as £7,032. The WC7328 prints colour at up to 26ppm and the WC245 outputs colour at 45ppm.
