A manufacturer of case and tray packaging equipment for the food industry claims its latest development allows processors greater flexibility in packaging a variety of different products on the same machine.
Douglas says that the Continuous Motion Axiom packer can directly load up to 55 products onto cases/trays per minute, while also allowing workers easier access to the machine for maintenance or product changeover for any type of food product.
Processors are under increasing pressure to ensure improved efficiency and more diversified product offerings form the product lines, amidst higher production and material costs.
The system is designed using electronic motion controls for performing repeatable product changeovers, while also using less space on a factory floor in comparison to existing case and tray packing technology, Douglas said. A walk-in frame construction is also used in a bid to grant plant workers improved accessibility to the equipment in the event of changeover or maintenance.
Douglas claims that optional tool-free changeovers can be performed in minutes with only a few modifications to parts.
The manufacturer says the product also includes a Human Machine Interface (HMI), which contains all the programming related to the packer's functions. The HMI can be used to modify these functions to further ensure that different food products can be added to the machine for packaging without long delays.
An electronic handwheel is also added to the machine to allow for viewing the entire production line in slow motion to locate any potential problems.
As part of the packer's design, the Smartrak Steady Stream Infeed system can also be used to remove any gaps in the production line that could compromise accuracy in the packaging patterns and therefore slow down the production line, the manufacturer said.
The product is available worldwide, Douglas said.
