Amcor, the Australian packaging manufacturer, is to invest 25m EUR (£19.6m) in a new manufacturing site in Poland as part of its growth strategy in Central and Eastern Europe.
Amcor Flexibles already has a facility in Lodz, in the centre of the country, but expects to move operations to the new site, situated in the city's Special Economic Zone, by 2010.
The company will add two new production lines to increase the facility's total capacity, but could not confirm when construction on the site would begin.
Gérard Blatrix, managing director of Amcor Flexibles Food, said the new plant would be "a key driver to develop our business" in the region.
In April 2007, Amcor announced it would restructure its European operations, which has included the sale of its PET production plants to La Seda de Barcelona in June.
The firm has consolidated its UK operations, closing a plant in Derbyshire, and opened a tobacco packaging plant in Ukraine in November, transferring business from a Swiss site.
