IcerTech is targeting the organic food sector with a cardboard-only insulated box alternative to polystyrene containers.
The double-wall cardboard box has 30mm corrugated inners that form a liner to maintain the cool temperature within the container.
Gel "Easi-Chill" coolants from Wrexham-based IcerTech can be placed in the box and around the product to bring the temperature to fridge level at 2 degrees C to 8 degrees C.
Alternatively, IcerTech "Easi-Ice" coolants can be used to create frozen temperatures.
Redditch-based contract packer Oaklands International is trialling the box.
IcerTech founder and managing director David Jones said he had aimed the product at the organic food trade because both the box and coolants could be recycled.
"IcerTech's EC food grade approved gel packs can be reused. At the end of their lives the contents can be safely flushed away down domestic drains and the bags recycled," he added.
Jones claimed the corrugated pads were as effective as polystyrene and could provide protection for more than 48 hours in transit, depending on the number of coolants used.
