Clondalkin Group has continued its international expansion with the purchase of Spanish pharmaceutical packaging manufacturer Cartonplex.
Barcelona-based Cartonplex produces folding cartons for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, where it has a "market-leading" position.
John Fitzgerald, chief executive of Clondalkin's specialist packaging division, said Spain was an "important market" for the company, because of the high concentration of pharmaceutical companies with manufacturing and research facilities.
"Cartonplex complements our existing pharmaceutical packaging facilities across Europe and the Americas," he said.
Cartonplex is Clondalkin's fourth acquisition of 2007. In April, it bought pharmaceutical labelling specialist Kenilworth Products. This was followed in the summer wth the purchase of pharmaceutical packaging firm Keller Crescent and flexible packaging manufacturer Direct Plastics.
Clondalkin operates from more than 40 locations worldwide, generating an annual turnover of more than £600m (€850m).
