Consumers Call for Reduced Packaging

An overwhelming majority of the UK population wants to see a reduction in the amount of supermarket packaging, the results of a recent opinion poll show.

The MORI survey of 1,000 shoppers found that 92% wanted a reduction in overall packaging, while 93% want an increase in recyclable packaging, UK newspaper The Independent reports.

Respondents said they expect to pay more for goods as shops became more responsible, and 58% said they would choose one supermarket over another for environmental and social responsibility reasons.

Meanwhile, in the US, a recent survey by the Grocery Manufacturers Association says environmental sustainability issues aren't a passing fad.

The study found 85% of US consumer businesses have active sustainability initiatives, including recycling and energy conservation programmes.

Deloitte Consulting principal and study co-author Peter Capozucca says the issue is unlike anything businesses have encountered in the past. "The industry's large environmental footprint and unique dependencies on agricultural inputs, water and packaging make sustainability a critical strategic issue that consumer packaged-goods companies must address proactively."

Many of the duplicators believe that Standard DVD format will be here for much longer simply because they believe that there arent DVD packaging machines that can automate the packaging of Blu-Ray Discs. However a few companies have automated packaging machines available that can package the new Blu-Ray Disc formats. Many of these DVD/Blu-Ray packaging machines can even automate a wide variety of media formats like Wii Nintendo DS and Universal Amaray cases. Digital Media Automation ( www.dma-incorporated.com ) is a company that makes such a machine that automates the packaging of blue ray , standard dvd and even the games packaging. Several other companies can be seen at the Media Tech Expo.
