Clondalkin Group has added Ohio-based Accutech Films to its North American business.
The purchase of the producer of flexible plastic films for industrial, agricultural and food and beverage applications will take Clondalkin Group’s turnover in North America to £204m ($400m).
North America now accounts for around a third of the Dublin-based group’s total sales of more than £610m.
Clondalkin Group chief executive Norbert McDermott said the acquisition would expand the group's "geographic and technological capability" in North America, and represented a "significant expansion" in the industrial, food and drink, retail, medical and agricultural markets in which the group operates.
Clondalkin's other plastic packaging businesses in North America include Fortune Plastics, with production plants in Connecticut, Tennessee, Illinois, Florida and Arizona, and Toronto-based Direct Plastics, which was acquired in June 2007.
Clondalkin operates 10 plastic packaging operations in North America and Europe, supplying high-barrier, multi-layer, printed and biodegradable films.
